Action research

Also known as: Participatory action research, PAR

A research methodology that combines investigation with practical action, where researchers work collaboratively with community stakeholders to address real-world problems while simultaneously generating knowledge. Action research is cyclical — plan, act, observe, reflect — and values the expertise of participants as co-researchers rather than subjects. In disability and accessibility research, action research is particularly valued for its commitment to producing tangible benefits for the communities being studied, not just academic publications.
