Object recognition
Also known as: Object detection, Image classification
A computer vision task in which a system identifies and labels objects within images or video, often using deep learning models trained on large datasets. For blind and low-vision users, object recognition is a core capability of camera-based assistive technologies like Seeing AI and Lookout, enabling identification of products, food items, medications, and environmental features. However, recognition errors are inevitable, and blind users face the unique challenge of being unable to visually verify whether the system's output is correct — making error communication and verification support essential design considerations.
