ASL education technology

Also known as: Sign language learning technology

Technology designed to support the teaching and learning of American Sign Language, ranging from video-based instructional platforms and feedback systems to computer vision tools that analyse signing performance. ASL education technology is an accessibility enabler because improving ASL fluency among hearing people — particularly parents of deaf children, educators, and healthcare providers — directly expands communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Key design challenges include providing feedback on the spatial and temporal aspects of signing that text-based instruction cannot convey, such as facial expressions, hand positioning, and movement dynamics.
