AI literacy

Also known as: Artificial intelligence literacy, Algorithm literacy

The knowledge, skills, and critical awareness needed to understand, evaluate, and effectively engage with artificial intelligence systems. For people with disabilities, AI literacy is particularly important because lack of understanding about how AI tools work — including their customization options, limitations, and biases — can create significant barriers to access and participation. Research shows that neurodivergent and disabled users often underutilize AI tools not because the tools lack capability, but because accessible guidance, tutorials, and onboarding are rarely provided, leaving users to navigate complex systems through draining trial and error.
