Glaucoma

A group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, usually caused by abnormally high intraocular pressure. It is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide, affecting over 80 million people. Glaucoma typically causes gradual peripheral vision loss that may go unnoticed until significant damage has occurred, eventually leading to tunnel vision or complete blindness if untreated. Because it primarily affects peripheral vision while preserving central acuity in early stages, people with glaucoma may not realize they are missing visual information at the edges of their field of view. For digital accessibility, glaucoma users may miss interface elements positioned at screen edges, struggle with navigation in physical and virtual environments, and benefit from content that is centrally positioned with clear visual hierarchy.
