Embodied participation

Also known as: Embodied presence

The experience of being physically present and actively engaged in a shared space through one's body or a technological proxy for it. In accessibility contexts, embodied participation refers to how technologies like telepresence robots can provide remote users with a physical form of presence that goes beyond passive video calls — allowing movement through space, gestural expression, and spatial positioning relative to others. Embodied participation is significant for inclusive education because it affects social dynamics, peer interaction, and the sense of belonging that comes from physically being "in the room," even via a technological intermediary.
