Body Doubling

Also known as: Parallel Working, Co-Working for Focus

A productivity and focus strategy commonly used by people with ADHD and other executive function challenges, where having another person present — physically or virtually — helps with task initiation and sustained attention. The other person does not need to assist with the task; their mere presence provides accountability and reduces the sense of isolation that can make starting tasks difficult. In the context of AI and accessibility, conversational AI tools have been found to serve a similar "digital body doubling" function, providing an interactive presence that helps users begin and maintain focus on tasks.
