Violation Score

Also known as: Accessibility Score, A11y Score

A numerical metric used to quantify the severity and prevalence of accessibility violations on a web page or within a dataset. Violation scores typically map qualitative impact levels (cosmetic, minor, moderate, serious, critical) to numerical values, enabling quantitative comparison of accessibility states before and after remediation. The percentage decrease in violation score is used to measure the effectiveness of correction methods. While useful for benchmarking, violation scores do not fully capture the user experience impact of accessibility barriers.
