Tactile Data Comics

Also known as: TDC

A presentation method for accessible education that combines step-by-step tactile graphics on a refreshable tactile display with synchronized verbal narration. Inspired by visual data comics, tactile data comics decompose complex images into sequential frames that progressively build up, with each frame retaining previous content while introducing new elements. This approach maintains cross-modal consistency between touch and hearing, enabling blind users to build mental representations incrementally. Research shows tactile data comics significantly improve comprehension (76.6% accuracy) compared to verbal-only or static tactile graphics (both 70.1%).
