ICTD
Also known as: Information and Communication Technologies and Development, ICT4D
A research field and practice area focused on designing, deploying, and evaluating information and communication technologies to improve socio-economic outcomes in low-resource and developing contexts. ICTD research addresses challenges such as limited infrastructure, affordability constraints, language diversity, and cultural factors that affect how technology is adopted and used. In accessibility, ICTD perspectives highlight that assistive technology solutions must account for the economic, infrastructural, and social realities of the Global South, where the majority of people with disabilities live.
