Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Also known as: CBT

A widely used, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and modifying dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviors. CBT is based on the premise that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that changing negative thinking patterns can lead to changes in feelings and behaviors. For OCD, CBT encompasses several approaches including Exposure and Response Prevention, Cognitive Therapy (restructuring distorted beliefs), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. CBT has demonstrated effectiveness across many mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD.
