Closed Captions

Also known as: CC

Captions that can be turned on or off by the viewer, as opposed to open captions which are permanently embedded in the video. Closed captions typically include not just dialogue but also descriptions of relevant non-speech audio like music, sound effects, and speaker identification. Under accessibility regulations including the ADA, FCC rules, and CVAA, many types of video content are required to have closed captions. The quality of closed captions varies significantly between professionally created captions and auto-generated alternatives.
