2D Tactile Display

Also known as: Two-Dimensional Tactile Display, Graphical Tactile Display

A type of tactile display that presents information across a two-dimensional surface, enabling blind and low vision users to access complex graphical data such as diagrams, charts, maps, and graphical user interfaces through touch. Unlike single-line Braille displays that present text one line at a time, 2D tactile displays provide a spatial layout that preserves the two-dimensional relationships in the original visual content. Commercial examples include the Monarch by American Printing House, Tactile2D by Metec, DotPad by Dot Inc., and Graphiti by Orbit Research. Key features include tactile pin arrays, control buttons, audio feedback, and touch-sensitive surfaces that support interactions like zooming and panning.
