Misinterpretation
Also known as: AI Misinterpretation
An AI error where the model incorrectly identifies or describes something that is actually present in the input. In image descriptions, misinterpretation includes errors like mistaking one product for another (shampoo for cleaning product), reading numbers incorrectly ("6mg" instead of "8mg"), or misidentifying colors, objects, or people. Misinterpretation is particularly dangerous in high-stakes scenarios like medication identification or navigation, where incorrect details can lead to safety risks. Unlike fabrication (inventing content not present), misinterpretation involves real content that is described inaccurately.
