Date Picker Accessibility

Also known as: Accessible Date Picker, Date Selection Accessibility

The degree to which date selection controls in web and mobile applications can be used effectively by people with disabilities. Date pickers are one of the most problematic interface elements for screen reader users, as they often rely on visual calendar grids, lack proper ARIA labels, have insufficient keyboard navigation, and fail to provide clear format instructions for manual text entry. In calendar accessibility research, 8 out of 18 BLV participants reported difficulty creating events due to inaccessible date pickers. Accessible date picker design should support both visual selection and manual text entry with clear format guidance, provide keyboard navigation through arrow keys, announce selected dates to screen readers, and offer error prevention through format validation.
