Adaptive Technology

Technology that has been modified or adapted from its original design to be accessible to people with disabilities, as distinct from assistive technology which is purpose-built for disability access. Examples include modified keyboards, adapted game controllers, or software with accessibility settings enabled. The distinction between adaptive and assistive technology is sometimes blurred, but adaptive technology generally refers to mainstream products that have been customized rather than specialized devices designed from the ground up for accessibility.
