Gamification

Also known as: Game-Based Learning

The application of game design elements and principles in non-game contexts to increase engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes. In reading accessibility, gamification has been used in literacy development tools for children with disabilities, including reading therapy apps for people with aphasia and alexia, literacy development applications for deaf children, and phonological awareness games for children with dyslexia. Research suggests that gamified approaches can make reading practice more engaging, though the effectiveness of game elements on actual reading skill development requires further longitudinal study.
