Special Education

Also known as: Special Needs Education, SPED

Educational programs, services, and instruction specifically designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Special education encompasses a range of settings from fully inclusive classrooms with support services to specialized separate schools. In India, special education for children with vision impairments primarily occurs in residential schools for the blind, where teachers (many of whom are blind themselves) provide instruction in Braille, mobility/orientation, and adapted academic content. The quality and resources available in special education settings vary enormously across regions.
