ChatGPT Accessibility

The degree to which ChatGPT and similar generative AI interfaces can be effectively used by people with disabilities, including compatibility with screen readers, keyboard navigation, and non-visual interaction patterns. Research with teachers with vision impairments in India found significant accessibility barriers in ChatGPT, including difficulties with login processes, screen reader incompatibility issues, English-centric interfaces, and navigation challenges. These barriers led several teachers to abandon the tool despite recognizing its potential. The accessibility of GenAI interfaces is a critical prerequisite for realizing their inclusive potential.
