Impression Management

Also known as: Self-Presentation

The conscious or unconscious process of controlling how one is perceived by others, including managing what personal information is visible or shared. For blind people using visual assistance technologies, impression management includes controlling what appears in camera-captured images, managing the visual presentation of their home or person, and deciding what private content to share with VAT services. Privacy tools like obfuscation techniques aim to support impression management by giving users control over what visual information is disclosed.
