Technology Probe
A research method that deploys a simple, functional technology prototype in real-world or realistic settings to observe user interactions and gather feedback about future design possibilities. Unlike polished prototypes, technology probes are intentionally open-ended, designed to inspire reflection and conversation rather than evaluate usability. In HCI research, technology probes complement design probes by allowing participants to experience core interactions firsthand, which is particularly valuable when collaborative or embodied experiences are difficult to imagine without hands-on engagement.
