Scene Change Detection

Also known as: Shot Boundary Detection, Scene Transition Detection

An automated technique for identifying transitions between different scenes or shots in video content by analyzing visual differences between consecutive frames. In audio description workflows, scene change detection helps determine optimal moments for inserting descriptions, as visual transitions often coincide with meaningful narrative shifts that BLV users need to know about. Scene changes can include hard cuts, fades, dissolves, and wipes, each indicating different types of narrative transitions.
