Silent Gap Detection

Also known as: Silence Detection, Audio Gap Detection

An automated technique for identifying periods of silence or absence of speech in audio tracks, used in audio description workflows to find natural insertion points for descriptions. Silent gap detection distinguishes between complete silence (no sound at all) and non-speech segments (where music or ambient sound may be present but no dialogue occurs). Both types of gaps represent opportunities to insert audio descriptions without overlapping with important spoken content, though descriptions during non-speech segments must be timed carefully to avoid masking significant sound effects.
