Slide Rule

A pioneering touch-based screen reader interaction technique for mobile devices, developed by Kane et al. in 2008, that makes touchscreen content accessible to blind users through finger-driven exploration. Slide Rule allows users to scan items by dragging a finger across the screen and select items with a second-finger tap (split-tap gesture). This technique inspired the touch interaction models later adopted by Apple VoiceOver and Android TalkBack, and has been extended to new domains including virtual reality scene reading and accessible graphics.
