Gestural Interface

Also known as: Gesture-Based Interface, Gestural Controller

An input device or system that interprets body movements, hand gestures, or physical expressions as control signals for digital systems. In accessibility and music contexts, gestural interfaces are particularly relevant for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing users who communicate through sign language, as they can bridge embodied musical performance with visual-gestural communication. Well-designed gestural interfaces for signing musicians avoid interfering with sign language production while still providing expressive control over sound parameters, haptic feedback, and visual displays.
