Flash Pattern Analyzer

Also known as: FPA, PEAT, Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool

Software tools designed to detect potentially dangerous flashing or strobing patterns in digital media that could trigger seizures or other photosensitive reactions. The Harding Flash Pattern Analyzer (FPA) and the free Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT) evaluate video and animated content for dangerous luminance changes, red flashes, and rapid transitions. These tools are primarily creator-driven, requiring content producers to voluntarily test their media before publication. While effective for professionally produced content, they face challenges with the scale and speed of user-generated content on social media, where millions of GIFs and videos are created and shared daily without any photosensitivity screening.
