Neurodevelopmental Condition
Also known as: Neurodevelopmental Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disability
A group of conditions that arise from differences in brain development and affect how a person processes information, learns, communicates, and interacts with the world. Common neurodevelopmental conditions include ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder, and intellectual disabilities. These conditions are typically present from early childhood and have lifelong impacts, though their manifestation may change over time. In digital accessibility, neurodevelopmental conditions require considerations beyond sensory and motor access — including cognitive load management, clear and predictable navigation, flexible pacing, distraction reduction, and support for executive function. The neurodiversity paradigm views these conditions as natural variations in human brain function rather than deficits to be cured.
