Mobility Aid

Also known as: Mobility Device, Mobility Equipment

A mobility aid is any device designed to assist people with mobility impairments in moving from one place to another, including wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, canes, crutches, and powered scooters. These devices are a subcategory of assistive technology focused specifically on facilitating personal mobility — the ability to change and maintain body position, walk, and navigate the physical environment. Mobility aids are essential for independence and community participation, enabling access to education, employment, and social life. Under the ADA and similar legislation worldwide, public spaces must accommodate mobility aid users through features such as ramps, accessible entrances, and sufficiently wide pathways.
