Data Protection
Also known as: Data Privacy
The practices, policies, and legal frameworks governing how personal information is collected, stored, processed, and shared by organizations. For assistive technology companies, data protection is especially critical because their products often collect intimate details about users' disabilities, daily activities, and environments. Research has shown that AT privacy policies frequently lack disability-specific protections, fail to distinguish between essential and non-essential data collection, and may not transparently communicate third-party data sharing practices, leaving disabled users particularly vulnerable to privacy violations.
