Civic Technology
Also known as: Civic Tech, Civic Hacking
Technology developed by community members, advocacy groups, or volunteers to improve public services, increase government transparency, and address civic challenges. In accessibility, civic technology includes open-source tools and platforms built to monitor and improve the accessibility of public infrastructure, such as web-based maps showing real-time elevator status at transit stations, crowdsourced sidewalk accessibility data, or automated accessibility compliance monitoring platforms. Civic technology empowers communities to fill information gaps that government agencies may not address.
