Sighted Guide
Also known as: Sighted Guide Technique, Human Guide
A technique in which a sighted person assists a blind or low vision individual with navigation and orientation by serving as a visual reference and mobility aid. In physical settings, the blind person typically holds the guide's arm just above the elbow and walks a half-step behind. In virtual reality, this concept has been adapted through features like shared movement, where users can grab a guide's avatar to navigate together. Sighted guide assistance is a foundational orientation and mobility skill taught by rehabilitation professionals, and its principles are increasingly being translated into digital and virtual environments.
