Omnidirectional Camera

Also known as: 360-Degree Camera, 360 Camera, Panoramic Camera

A camera equipped with multiple wide-angle or fish-eye lenses that captures a complete 360-degree view of its surroundings in a single shot. The resulting equirectangular image can be projected into conventional perspective views for viewing or processing. In accessibility contexts, omnidirectional cameras offer a significant advantage for people with visual impairments: because the camera captures everything around it, users do not need to aim at a specific target. The desired photograph can be extracted in post-production by cropping the relevant region from the 360-degree image, eliminating the fundamental challenge of camera pointing that makes conventional photography difficult for blind users.
