Community Center

Also known as: Community Space, Community Hub

A physical or virtual space where members of a particular community gather for social support, resources, education, and shared activities. In the context of marginalized communities such as LGBTQIA+ individuals and people with disabilities, community centers serve as safe spaces that provide refuge from discrimination, foster belonging, and connect people to services. For people with disabilities, the accessibility of these spaces — both physical (ramps, signage, acoustics) and social (attitudes toward AT use, disability awareness among staff and members) — directly impacts their ability to participate and benefit from the community.
