Music Braille
Also known as: Braille Music, Braille Music Notation
A tactile music notation system that uses combinations of braille dots to represent musical elements including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo markings, and other performance instructions. Music braille allows blind and low-vision musicians to read musical scores through touch. However, it presents significant challenges: the code is time-consuming to learn, braille music on embossed paper is expensive to produce, reading is laborious because musicians must take their hands off their instrument to feel the notation, and the notation must be memorized before performance. These limitations have motivated research into alternative approaches such as vibrotactile feedback systems and accessible digital notation software like SoundCells.
