Language Access
Also known as: Language Services, Linguistic Access
The provision of services and resources that enable people with limited proficiency in the dominant language to meaningfully access information, programmes, and services. Language access encompasses professional interpretation (spoken), translation (written), bilingual staffing, and multilingual digital resources. In accessibility, language access is a critical but often overlooked dimension — digital tools, health information, and government services provided only in a dominant language create barriers comparable to inaccessible design for people with disabilities, particularly for refugee and immigrant populations who may also have disabilities.
