ADKAR
Also known as: ADKAR Model, ADKAR Change Management Model
A goal-oriented change management model developed by Prosci that identifies five sequential outcomes an individual must achieve for organizational change to succeed: Awareness of the need for change, Desire to support and participate in it, Knowledge of how to change, Ability to implement the change, and Reinforcement to sustain it over time. In accessibility contexts, ADKAR has been proposed as a diagnostic tool for understanding why organizations struggle to implement web accessibility despite awareness of its importance. Research at universities has shown that while awareness of accessibility needs is typically high, reinforcement — institutional commitment to sustaining accessibility efforts long-term — is often the weakest element.
