Audio-Tactile

Also known as: Audio-Tactile Interaction, Audio-Haptic

An interaction paradigm that combines tactile (touch-based) and auditory feedback to convey information. Audio-tactile systems pair physical surfaces, such as raised maps or 3D-printed models, with location-triggered audio output so that touching a specific area plays a corresponding sound or spoken description. This multimodal approach is particularly valuable for blind and low-vision users, as it reinforces spatial understanding through two complementary sensory channels. Audio-tactile interfaces are used in accessible maps, museum exhibits, educational materials, and assistive technology devices.
