Section 508

Also known as: 508 Compliance, Rehabilitation Act Section 508

A provision of the United States Rehabilitation Act that requires federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Updated in 2017 (the "Section 508 Refresh"), the standards now incorporate WCAG 2.0 Level AA as the benchmark for web content accessibility. Section 508 applies to all federal government websites, software, hardware, and electronic documents, and is frequently referenced as a standard in government procurement requirements, effectively extending its influence to private-sector vendors serving government clients.
