Intellectual and Developmental Disability
Also known as: IDD, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Disability
A group of conditions characterised by significant limitations in both intellectual functioning (reasoning, learning, problem-solving) and adaptive behaviour (everyday social and practical skills), with onset during the developmental period. IDD encompasses a wide range of conditions varying in severity, and individuals with IDD may need support with education, employment, independent living, and social participation. Assistive technologies including wearable devices, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, and educational software can play an important role in supporting people with IDD to develop skills and participate more fully in inclusive education and community life.
