Tetraplegia

Also known as: Quadriplegia

A condition resulting from injury to the cervical (neck) portion of the spinal cord, causing partial or complete loss of motor function and sensation in all four limbs as well as the trunk. The extent of impairment varies depending on the level and completeness of the injury, ranging from limited hand dexterity to complete paralysis. Tetraplegia has profound implications for technology interaction, as individuals may be unable to use standard input devices like keyboards, mice, or game controllers, requiring alternative input methods such as voice control, eye tracking, head movements, sip-and-puff switches, or bite switches.
