Wheelchair Rugby

Also known as: Murderball, Quad Rugby

A competitive adaptive sport for athletes with impairments affecting all four limbs, originally designed for athletes with quadriplegia. Played on an indoor court, it combines elements of rugby, basketball, and handball. The sport is known for its physicality, with wheelchair-to-wheelchair contact being a core part of gameplay. The intense physical nature of the sport creates unique challenges around wheelchair maintenance, as the wear and tear from collisions impacts chair longevity and can cause injuries. Wheelchair rugby uses a classification system to ensure fair competition among athletes with varying levels of functional ability.
