Fall Detection

Also known as: Automatic Fall Detection, Fall Alert System

Technology that automatically identifies when a person has fallen and triggers an alert or emergency response. Fall detection systems typically use sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes in wearable devices (smartwatches, pendants), ambient sensors (radar, Wi-Fi), or cameras to distinguish falls from normal activities of daily living. For older adults and people with mobility disabilities, fall detection supports independent living by ensuring timely assistance when a fall occurs, particularly when the person is unable to call for help themselves.
