Hong Kong Sign Language
Also known as: HKSL
Hong Kong Sign Language (HKSL) is the primary sign language used by the deaf and hard of hearing community in Hong Kong. It has its own distinct grammar and linguistic rules that differ significantly from spoken Chinese, Cantonese, and other sign languages such as American Sign Language (ASL). With over 155,000 deaf or hard of hearing people in Hong Kong and fewer than 100 registered interpreters, HKSL users face substantial communication barriers in daily life, education, and employment.
