Edge Computing

Also known as: Edge AI, Edge Intelligence

Edge computing is a computing paradigm where data processing occurs on devices physically close to the user rather than in centralized cloud servers. For accessibility applications, edge computing offers important advantages including reduced latency for real-time assistive technologies, enhanced privacy by keeping sensitive data like video or biometric information on local devices, and the ability to function without reliable internet connectivity. Examples include on-device sign language recognition, local speech-to-text processing, and portable assistive devices.
