Symbrachydactyly

A rare congenital condition in which a child is born with abnormally short fingers that may be webbed, misshapen, or missing. The name combines "sym" (joined), "brachy" (short), and "dactyly" (finger). Typically only one hand is affected, and the underlying bone, muscle, ligament, and nerve structures may also be involved. Symbrachydactyly affects approximately 1 in 32,000 births and is relevant to accessibility because it impacts fine motor function, grip strength, and the ability to use standard input devices such as keyboards and touchscreens, making alternative and customizable input mechanisms important for affected individuals.
