See-Through Display

Also known as: Optical See-Through Display, Transparent Display, OST Display

A display technology that allows users to view digital content overlaid on the real world by projecting images onto a transparent or semi-transparent surface. Unlike opaque (occlusive) displays that block the user's view of the environment, see-through displays preserve direct visual access to surroundings while adding digital information. This technology is used in augmented reality headsets and smart glasses. For accessibility, see-through displays enable deaf and hard-of-hearing users to view captions or sign language interpretation while maintaining awareness of their environment, and can provide visual information overlays for people with low vision without blocking residual sight.
