Disability Employment Gap

Also known as: Employment Disparity

The significant difference in employment rates between people with and without disabilities. Statistics consistently show that people with disabilities are employed at roughly half the rate of non-disabled people — for example, 34.4% versus 75.4% in the United States (2015 data). This gap persists despite legal protections like the Americans with Disabilities Act and reflects systemic barriers including workplace inaccessibility, employer discrimination, transportation challenges, and inaccessible hiring processes. Closing this gap is a key goal of disability rights advocacy and accessible technology development.
