Easy Read

Also known as: Easy-to-Read, Easy Language, Plain Language for Cognitive Accessibility

A method of presenting written information in a way that is accessible to people with intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, or low literacy. Easy Read uses short sentences, common everyday vocabulary, active voice, and clear structure, often accompanied by images or pictographs to support comprehension. Unlike general plain language, Easy Read specifically targets readers with cognitive or developmental disabilities and follows guidelines such as those from Inclusion Europe and the International Federation of Library Associations. In digital contexts, automatic text simplification technologies can help convert standard text into Easy Read format by performing lexical and syntactic transformations.
