Bradykinesia

Also known as: Slowness of Movement

Bradykinesia is a motor symptom characterized by slowness of movement and a progressive reduction in the speed and amplitude of repetitive actions. It is one of the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson's disease and directly affects a person's ability to interact with digital devices — typing becomes slower, touchscreen gestures less fluid, and mouse or pointer movements less precise. In accessibility contexts, bradykinesia contributes to the need for adjustable timing controls, larger touch targets, and tolerance for slow input in user interfaces. Passive monitoring of typing speed and touchscreen interaction patterns has been explored as a non-intrusive method to track bradykinesia progression in people with Parkinson's disease.
