Structured Walkthrough
Also known as: Guided Walkthrough, Accessibility Walkthrough
An accessibility evaluation method in which an evaluator is guided through a systematic series of checks using predefined steps, instructions, and heuristics. Unlike a full WCAG conformance review which requires expert knowledge to interpret success criteria, a structured walkthrough provides step-by-step procedures, explanations of why each check matters, instructions for using evaluation tools, and guidance on interpreting results. Research has shown that structured walkthroughs significantly improve the accuracy and reliability of accessibility evaluations performed by novice auditors compared to working directly from WCAG documentation, making them valuable for both training and practical evaluation by non-specialists.
